LIEZEL JOINS THE MOST UNEXPECTED TEAM TO TACKLE THE IRONMAN! Four chubby yuppies and a glamour girl
A delicate blonde wait she is not, she can out-run, out-swim, out-cycle and out-party the best of them. Our rose amongst the thorns Liezel’s track record speaks for itself, the question is, will she beat the Boys and by how much? …Challenge accepted!
My big break came in the form of MNET’s idols, and it’s been an exciting whirlwind ever since. As only the second woman in the world to ever present Idols it opened many doors and exposed me to all aspects of South Africa, the good, the glamorous and the less privileged.
My job in television along with numerous charity initiatives takes me to all ends of the earth and exposes me to much this country has to offer along with our many shortfalls. My role and profile on programs like SABC3’s dailybreakfast show – Expresso – as well as my radio show – the Sunday Sundowner– on 94.5KFM in Cape Town, allows me to use my voice to enlighten the public as to our realities and to share the opportunities available to them, to get involved, and to really make a difference. This is ultimately where I findt he most satisfaction and fulfillment. My work with organisations like Signature of Hope, keeps me grounded and focused on whats really important in life.
Away from the microphones and cameras, a healthy lifestyle and fitness regime is very important to me, and in 2012 and 2013 I partnered with Canoeing SA’s High Performance coach Greg van Heerden to finish the toughest canoe marathon in the world – The Unlimited Dusi Canoe Marathon. I am also the only one of the Fat Boys Team to have done an Iron Man before, so I know what’s in store! I’m told I’m chatty so my strategy is to talk them through the agony, keep them motivated and if nothing else, give them something to look at, as they run.
