Liezel van der Westhuizen is Idols’ Iron Woman, having just finished the Iron Man triathlon in Port Elizabeth on Sunday, 25 April.

Liezel finished the grueling course in 16 hours 19 minutes and 51 seconds.

The official cut-off time was 17 hours! “Everyone said I could have done better if I wasn’t chatting so much and being so social, but I enjoyed every second of it!” she says.

The Iron Man comprises a 3,8km swim followed by a 180km cycle and 42,2km running, to make a total of 286km. “I got the day off from Idols to do this, and all the way I just kept thinking I can’t go back to Idols not having made it,” she laughed, back on the Idols set on Tuesday [27 April] “It spurred me on!”

Liezel is the host of Idols Season 6, which starts on M-Net this July and this year she will be joined by rapper Proverb as her co-host.
